Awesome and simple app that makes it easy to send out emails to your list. I love that fact that it is being actively developed. I've used MailChimp, then TinyLetter, but one is far too kitchen-sink, and the other is too bare bones. Buttondown is my goldilocks... just right!

Buttondown is the essential newsletter tool for people in tech, whether you want a programable API or (like me) just want to work in Markdown to keep the content reusable and make use of other extensive tooling options. Extremely responsive support, terrific options, extremely useable free tier. I've been using it for 3yrs (168 issues!) and I'm very happy.

This works great for my personal newsletter. I can manage subscribers and drafts easily. My favorite features:

  • I can opt-out of analytics / tracking, which feels incongruent with my goals of keeping my letter personal.
  • I can use my personal domain to send emails, in a way helps with prevention of my email getting marked as spam.
Pros
+ subscriber management (1)+ custom domain support (1)+ no tracking option (1)
