Excalidraw feels natural and lightweight compared to heavier whiteboard tools like Miro or FigJam. It’s fast, distraction-free, and perfect for sketching quick ideas or diagrams without overcomplicating things.

I love wireframing with this tool, but I recently had a really bad experience. I didn’t realize that anything I created in live collaboration mode wouldn’t be saved — I had to manually save it. I’m not used to that kind of setup, since I come from Figma/FigJam where live collaboration is already a built-in feature.

Excalidraw is an excellent tool for visualizing complex architecture or projects with many moving pieces. And very importantly it's open source and can be run locally!

hands down the best tool for quick, collaborative diagrams. Feels like sketching on a whiteboard but with all the power of digital. Perfect for wireframes, systems thinking, or just getting messy ideas out fast.

We use Excalidraw for sketching out ideas, agent flows, and quick interface mockups because it’s fast, collaborative, and feels as close to drawing on a whiteboard as a digital tool can get. It strikes the perfect balance between being informal enough for brainstorming and structured enough to communicate ideas clearly with the team.

We also tried tools like Figma, Miro, and Whimsical. While they’re all great in their own right, they can feel too heavy when all you want is to quickly sketch and think. Figma is amazing for polished UI design, but overkill for early concepts. Excalidraw just lets us think out loud visually without friction.

Tip for others choosing a visual thinking tool: If you want something lightweight, distraction-free, and great for early ideation or technical diagrams, Excalidraw is hard to beat. It’s open source, runs in the browser, and supports real-time collaboration making it perfect for remote teams moving fast.

Very user-friendly product, especially its UI and functionality. It would be better if you guys could add table functionality.

Excalidraw made brainstorming and UI planning intuitive and fast. Its freeform, hand-drawn style helped me visually think through features and flows without getting caught up in pixel perfection.
