There's a reason why MySQL is so widely used - it's free, open-source, fast, and easy to use. In today's world of object-orientated databases, I find MySQL very hard to look past. It offers everything you need and more. I just recently learned how to use the full-text search feature and I was blown away! It makes building search features incredibly straightforward, thus providing a way to make my site instantly more accessible to users. Excellent!

MySQL remains a top open-source RDBMS due to its reliability, ease of use, and strong community support, powering everything from small apps to large-scale web services like Facebook and YouTube. While PostgreSQL offers more advanced features, MySQL excels in speed and simplicity for read-heavy workloads, with seamless integration into the LAMP stack.
