We chose PocketBase for its all-in-one simplicity and speed. It gave us database, auth and file storage in minutes without heavy setup. Alternatives like Firebase or Supabase felt heavier or more complex. PocketBase was lean, fast and easy to self-host. Tip: run it behind a reverse proxy for production and back up the SQLite file regularly.

PocketBase is a fantastic open source backend. It offers auth, realtime database, file storage and more out of the box. The founder is very helpful and approachable and the best part is that its self-hosted as a single binary, making it extremely easy to launch a new product without vendor lock-in.

PocketBase is fast, lightweight, and has been instrumental in making Hapta (our backend) scalable. Recently, Hapta had 1.6k visitors with only 136 direct backend requests, showcasing excellent efficiency. We're still scaling, but PocketBase’s simplicity and realtime capabilities have helped us tremendously.

Pocket base is a great backend for small apps that you want to develop quickly. For side hustles, site projects anything like that pocket base should be the first thing you use if you want batteries included and you don't want to worry too much about the backend. One caveat maybe that it is designed to run on the client mainly but that's not really an issue for the apps I'm writing. I love it, it takes away a lot of complexity.
