Reviews for RunwayML
Hear what real users highlight about this tool.
RunwayML draws split opinions: casual users praise its intuitive workflow, fast rendering, and strong image-to-video and masking tools, while critics cite high costs, slow “relaxed” queues, weak prompt adherence, and opaque moderation and account actions. Momentum and steady improvements are noted, but some say it’s not yet reliable for commercial-grade accuracy. Makers of Tight Studio highlight a helpful API for preparing AI videos, makers of Rubbrband commend Gen-3 Alpha Turbo’s visuals and speed, and makers of Vidify value early API access.

For generating early UI motion previews of CalPulse’s “snap the menu” demo — it made our concept come alive.
Amazing API for us to prepare AI generated videos
While struggles remain, from the early days this product has kept pioneering and the pace has been impressive.
RunwayML makes creative storytelling feel effortless. Its AI tools helped us prototype and refine AesteeAI’s photo and video effects fast no heavy setup, just pure creative flow. It’s the gold standard for visual AI experimentation. 🎬✨
RunwayML was essential for generating all the cinematic images and visuals in Sounds from Beyond, giving our game its noir, atmospheric style.
Runway made video creation practical for small teams. Our agent outputs scene-level prompts that drop straight into Runway, which cut edit time from hours to minutes and gave us far more control than other text-to-video options.
Wild how far video gen has come. Been messing with Runway to create b-roll from prompts, and it actually holds up for abstract sequences. Wouldn’t trust it for commercial work yet, but great for concepting or low-budget indie projects.
A miserable experience.
The prices are way too high. If you get the unlimited (Relaxed) subscription, generating a 10 second video takes about 20 minutes. You can't que videos either, you have to wait until they are finished one by one.
The AI gets your prompt wrong half the time. Which make you lose time and credits.
Then there's the oversensitive censorship. Even people in short-sleeved t-shirts are too risky. They don't tell you what's the problem either. While you're figuring out what exactly is the problem, your account gets suspended. They say you can appeal to this, but that's a lie. They just mention that their decision is final, give no explanation and tell you to go away.
Anything is better than this overpriced mess.
RunwayML, the leading AI for video generation, brought Neusatz to life through dynamic visuals. It helped craft a cinematic trailer and captivating header animations by transforming static concepts into fluid, story-driven sequences, perfectly capturing the city’s essence of mystery and history.
RunwayML stands out for enabling the creation of highly imaginative, “impossible” videos with advanced AI tools that push creative boundaries beyond what most alternatives offer.
Utilizing Runway for curated video projects presents numerous benefits, especially when harnessing its sophisticated AI capabilities for video generation and editing. Additionally, integrating Canva with Runway enhances the editing process, allowing for seamless collaboration and refined visual design
Nowhere near worth the exorbitant pricing. Even with the slightly less expensive Gen 3 Alpha Turbo, there is almost no prompt adherence, even if you follow their prompting guide.
And given the extremely high expense, most users won't have the freedom to experiment in order to find that just-right-magical-prompt-wording that will yield any result that even approaches accurate. Even with start images, where most of the work is done for them, the resulting video is disappointing 9 times out of ten.
Not worth the money at this time.
The results you get with gen 3 alpha are superb. I find word art generations like title or splashscreens especially very convincing !
