Setapp earns praise for convenience, breadth, and curation, with many users saying it boosts daily productivity and simplifies updates and licensing. Makers of Pie Menu celebrate being part of the ecosystem, while makers of Synthesys AI Voice Generator highlight strong engagement and referral momentum. Power users appreciate value from multiple included tools and quick support. Setapp has a great catalogue of apps to use and it’s easy to install and browse the apps. I use many apps from Setapp everyday. Can fully recommend to check it out! 👌

I decided to try Setapp a few years back because I was looking for a way to simplify my app management on Mac. I wanted easy access to a variety of useful applications without having to pay for each one separately. Setapp offered a subscription model that promised over 250 apps, which sounded like a great deal.

What I Liked

One of the standout features of Setapp is the sheer number of high-quality apps available. From productivity tools to creative software, there's something for everyone. I found myself discovering new apps that genuinely improved my workflow. The installation process is super easy, and I appreciated being able to try out various apps without the commitment of buying them outright.

Another plus is the regular updates and new app additions. It feels like Setapp is constantly evolving, which keeps it fresh and exciting. I also liked the convenience of managing everything in one place, rather than having to juggle multiple subscriptions.

What I Didn’t Like

However, not everything was perfect. Over time, I noticed that some of the newer apps didn’t seem particularly useful or innovative. It felt like there were periods where the additions were more about quantity than quality. At times, I found myself scrolling through the app catalog without finding anything new that sparked my interest.

Additionally, the pricing could be more localized. As someone living in Sri Lanka, the flat international price felt a bit steep compared to local standards. It would be great if they could consider adjusting their pricing model to be more accessible.

Recommendation

Despite these drawbacks, I would still recommend Setapp, especially to Mac users who love exploring new software. If you're someone who values having a variety of apps at your fingertips and doesn't mind a subscription model, Setapp can be a fantastic resource. Just be prepared for the occasional hit or miss in app quality!

Super scammy tactics. So I bought 1y sub for mac + mobile .. but then suddenly they stopped supporting the mobile platform and thus mobile apps like e.g. BusyCal (major reason for me to buy) basically forcing me to upgrade.

No surprise if you see where the guys are coming from. Scammy shareware provider. If this is not being resolved soon - I will escalate and take legal actions.

So take care!!! If it looks too good - it often is.

Reliable and innovative features. The only thing I can point out is that it deserves a better approach regarding price localization. For instance, you guys surely know that I am one of the rare Brazilian subscribers. The flat international price is, by all means, inaccessible in the local context. This means the company is missing out on millions in potential revenue, and consumers are losing access to a quality product. I don’t understand what the argument against price localization would be, but it would be interesting to know—considering this seems to be a deliberate choice.

I like that I have a bunch of apps that I use from Setapp but I hate that they add so many junk apps. I feel they need to be more discriminating but they seem to be under pressure to please everyone and stuff their inventory. Sad...

I honestly signed up for the trial to get a single app (DisplayBuddy) and now use a ton of the apps and think it's a surprisingly good deal. For me it's Luminar Neo + CleanMyMac + DisplayBuddy + iStat... but now I have a bunch of other utilities that have saved me a ton of time/sadness. (Disk Drill, Gemini, etc.)

I have been a macOS user for years, and I have lost the track of all the apps I have tested (both free and premium accounts). Setapp is the only platform that gives you access to so many apps with one single subscription that can actually pay itself. I can't say that I use all apps in your catalog, but there are some “big names” there that would be pricier when paying for them separately in a monthly basis. I'm glad to see that you're keeping it up and consistently adding more apps! Hopefully, I will see more emphasis in generative AI apps and design tools.

An amazingly useful and well-curated collection of apps. Easy to install or uninstall. Well worth the annual subscription fee.

Everything was fine until I decided to cancel. (Cancellation was easy, getting SetApp out of my life hasn’t been.) After properly uninstalling the SetApp apps using the built-in uninstaller, and fully uninstalling SetApp using App Cleaner, Launchpad filled with dead shortcuts to all SetApp apps, even those I never installed.

I reset the Launchpad database via Terminal, and was able to get back to normal - for a day. Now the nonexistent app shortcuts are back again. I’m going to have to wipe my MacBook Pro, it seems. Ran a full virus scan with. BitDefender, which is usually overzealous, and it found nothing.

The empty, logo-marked SetApp folder keeps reappearing on my SSD.

And now I’m going to have to pay to upgrade my occasional backup Software, Carbon Copy Cloner, to the latest version, so that I don’t have to wait ages for my Backblaze online backup to download my data. Then, I have to reinstall MacOS from scratch.

Why does this software keep fighting me? I can’t think of any benefit to the company, so it makes me believe there’s some major flaw in their code.

Worst of all, I’ve found numerous horror stories like this about SetApp, clearly written by intelligent people who performed uninstalls the right way, based on their descriptions.

I’m usually skeptical of other reviewers who leave negative reviews, assuming they did something wrong. If I had ignored a review like this a while back, I would not be happy with myself right now.

encountered an issue where one of my active devices was logged out for no reason, and when I tried to sign back in, it kept asking me to add a device I had already registered. This left me unable to access the apps I needed for work.

When I contacted support, the representative was unhelpful and somewhat rude, offering no solution except to wait 48 hours. As someone who relies on daily access to my devices, this was extremely frustrating. Quick responses are pointless if they don’t resolve the issue. SetApp’s support in this case was disappointing.
