8 Free AI Visibility Checkers, Actually Tested

Semrush, Ahrefs, Neil Patel and five more all offer a free way to check whether ChatGPT mentions your brand. We ran the same brand through every one of them. Here is what each really checks — and what sits behind a signup wall.

A free AI visibility checker answers one question: when someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google’s AI Overviews about your product category, does your brand come up? In 2026 at least eight free tools check this — but they differ widely in which AI platforms they cover, how many checks you get, and how much is locked behind an email wall.

We ran the same brand through all eight. The comparison table gives you the short answer; the sections below cover what each tool is actually good for.

How we compared them

For each tool we checked the same things: which AI platforms it queries, whether results are instant or gated behind contact details, how many free checks you get, and whether it explains why you are visible or invisible — not just a score. Every screenshot below was captured from the live tool in July 2026, and the platform lists come from each tool’s own page, not its marketing summaries.

Full transparency: our own checker is on this list. We ordered the list by what each tool is objectively best at — which puts Ahrefs first for platform coverage — and marked ours clearly so you can judge it on the same terms as the rest.

The 8 free AI visibility checkers

The widest platform coverage of any free checker we tested: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, and Google AI Overviews, with no signup and results in seconds. It takes a brand name rather than a domain, and it’s powered by the same data as Ahrefs’ paid Brand Radar product.

Ahrefs free AI Visibility Checker covering ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, and Google AI Overviews with brand name input
Ahrefs AI Visibility Checker — five platforms, brand-name input, no signup
Strengths

Five AI platforms in one free check — the broadest coverage on this list — with Ahrefs’ dataset behind it.

Limits

The free check is a snapshot; ongoing tracking and detailed breakdowns require the paid Brand Radar.

The most searched-for tool in this category. Enter a domain and it scans ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews using industry-relevant prompts, tracking both linked citations and unlinked brand mentions, then reports an overall visibility score and competitive positioning. When we tested it, no signup was required and the counter allowed 3 free checks.

Semrush free AI Search Visibility Checker landing page with domain input and no-signup-required note
Semrush AI Search Visibility Checker — domain input, 3 free checks, no signup for the basic report
Strengths

Clean competitor benchmarking backed by Semrush’s query database; tracks unlinked mentions, not just links.

Limits

3 checks, then it points you to the enterprise offering; deeper prompt-level tracking sits in the paid Semrush AI toolkit.

3. RankTopAI Free AI Visibility Checker

Our tool — judge the screenshot, not our word

Enter your domain and the checker runs the questions your buyers actually ask (“best [category] tools for startups”, “alternatives to [competitor]”) against ChatGPT Search, ChatGPT’s model knowledge, and Google AI Overviews — then shows the exact prompt, whether you were mentioned and at what rank, who was recommended instead, and a concrete top fix. No signup; a check takes about 90 seconds.

RankTopAI free AI visibility checker showing evidence per prompt: ChatGPT Search mention at rank 4, a Google AI Overviews query where a competitor is cited instead, and a recommended fix
RankTopAI’s evidence view: the exact prompt, the outcome per engine, and the recommended fix
Strengths

Shows the evidence, not just a score — exact prompts, your rank, and which competitor is cited in your place, plus a shareable report.

Limits

3 free checks per day; Perplexity and Gemini coverage is rolling out; continuous weekly tracking needs an account.

A no-frills checker (currently “AI Visibility Tool 3.1”) from a long-running free-SEO-tools site. Enter a brand or URL and it returns separate visibility scores for Gemini, ChatGPT, and Perplexity — a genuinely useful cross-model comparison for a quick second opinion.

SEO Review Tools — per-model scores for Gemini, ChatGPT, and Perplexity
Strengths

Per-model score breakdown across three platforms; basic check runs without an account.

Limits

Score-oriented rather than prompt-level evidence; heavier features push toward the site’s API trial and members account.

Does exactly what the domain says: paste your website, get an instant AI visibility score across ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. The pitch leans on urgency (“800M+ people use ChatGPT weekly”) and the whole flow takes seconds with no signup.

AmIVisibleOnAI — instant score, no signup
Strengths

Fastest yes/no answer on this list; no signup, no form.

Limits

Score-only — little prompt-level evidence on why you’re invisible or what to fix.

Aimed at local businesses — restaurants, clinics, home services. It checks ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity, lets you toggle between a single location and a whole brand, and reports a visibility score with citations and share-of-voice across themes and prompts. You enter business name, website, and location so it can match local signals.

Birdeye free AI visibility checker for local businesses covering ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity with single location or brand options
Birdeye — the only checker built around local, “near me” intent
Strengths

The only checker built around local intent, with per-location checks and share-of-voice themes.

Limits

You submit business details and consent to communications; less useful for SaaS or e-commerce brands.

Lives inside the Ubersuggest app as its “AI Search Visibility” module, alongside AI prompt ideas, rank tracking, and site audits. Results tie into the broader Ubersuggest SEO workflow, and the interface pushes a 7-day trial of the paid plans.

Neil Patel’s AI Brand Visibility — a module inside the Ubersuggest app
Strengths

Convenient if you already work in Ubersuggest — AI visibility sits next to your keywords and rank tracking.

Limits

Requires an Ubersuggest account, and the app steers steadily toward the paid trial.

Amplitude — the product analytics company — asks “Is AI recommending your brand?” and offers a free report tracking how your brand performs against competitors in LLM search. You submit your brand through a form and consent to data processing; the report is an entry point to Amplitude’s enterprise offering.

Amplitude’s AI visibility report — form-based, aimed at enterprise teams
Strengths

Competitive LLM-search benchmarking with enterprise-grade presentation.

Limits

Lead-capture flow — you trade contact details for the report rather than getting instant self-serve results.

Newer checkers worth watching

The eight tools above are the established options, but this category moves fast — new checkers launch on Product Hunt almost monthly. Three recent ones we’re keeping an eye on (we haven’t tested these as thoroughly):

  • LLM SEO Report — checks what ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude say about your brand or a competitor. Notable for including Claude, which most free checkers skip.
  • ClayHog — tracks visibility and sentiment across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, and AI Overviews, with a focus on why competitors rank above you.
  • PromptScout — starts with a free technical AI-readiness audit, then tracks how AI assistants mention your brand and surface competitors.

What is an AI visibility score?

An AI visibility score measures how often your brand appears in AI-generated answers for a set of relevant queries, usually expressed as a percentage or 0–100 index. A score of 40 means your brand appeared in roughly 40% of tested answers. Two things matter more than the absolute number: trend (is it rising month over month?) and share of voice (do competitors appear more often than you?). We cover measurement methodology in our guide to measuring AI brand mentions and share of voice.

Checker vs. audit: which do you need?

A checker tells you whether you are visible. An AI visibility audit tells you why — it inspects your site’s crawlability for AI bots, schema markup, content citability, and entity signals, then produces a fix list. If a checker shows you are invisible, the audit is the logical next step: run a free GEO audit or follow our step-by-step GEO audit guide.

Checked your visibility? Look at where AI gets its answers

Whichever checker you use, the follow-up question is the same: where do AI engines learn about brands in the first place? A large share of AI citations come from community platforms — Reddit threads, Stack Exchange answers, niche forums — rather than brand websites. That means a checker showing you’re invisible is often really showing that nobody discusses you in the places AI models trust. We break down how community content earns AI citations (and how to participate without spamming) in our guide to community content and AI citations.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check if ChatGPT mentions my brand?

Ask ChatGPT the questions your customers ask (“best [category] tools”, “alternatives to [competitor]”) in a fresh session, or use a checker from the list above to test many queries across several AI platforms at once. Manual prompting works but misses variation — AI answers change with phrasing, session context, and model version.

Is there an AI visibility checker Chrome extension?

A few extensions check AI Overviews presence while you browse Google, but coverage of ChatGPT and Perplexity from an extension is limited by design — those platforms don’t expose answers to extensions reliably. A web-based checker remains the more complete option.

How often should I check my AI visibility?

Monthly is enough for most brands — AI models and their retrieval sources don’t shift daily. Check after major content launches, PR coverage, or competitor product launches. If you are actively working on GEO, weekly tracking helps you connect changes to results.

My brand isn’t mentioned anywhere. What do I do?

Start with the fundamentals: make your site crawlable by AI bots, add schema markup, publish citable answer-first content, and build entity presence on the platforms AI models trust. Our guide on how to get mentioned in AI walks through each step.
